Every so often, we hear from a member whose story reminds us why NWFA benefits matter. Here's one, in her own words about her experience with DialCare, a telemedicine service that gives NWFA members direct access to state-licensed and fully credentialed doctors, via phone or video consultations.
“A few months ago, I was prescribed insulin for my diabetes. One night, my blood sugar was already low, and I wasn't sure whether I should still take my dose - my regular doctor hadn't fully explained what to do in a situation like that, and it was well after office hours, so there was no one for me to call. Then I remembered DialCare is available 24/7, so I called and spoke with a doctor right away.
That call may have saved my life. The DialCare doctor told me that taking insulin that night, with my blood sugar already so low, could have sent me into diabetic shock - or worse. I was home alone at the time, and I don't like to think about what might have happened if I hadn't called first.
I'm so grateful DialCare was there when I needed it most. Now I tell everyone I know to use it - it's more than a convenience benefit. For me, it was lifesaving.”
